For Fall/Winter 2021, the contemporary line looked to Dada readymades (see that infamous Duchamp <a href="https://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/duchamp-fountain-t07573">Fountain</a>), John Cage and Warhol’s celeb-centered pop art for inspiration, resulting in statement pieces, including classic white denim jeans with cuts on the back of the knees instead of the front, an inside-out wool overcoat and a traditional trench turned backwards.&nbsp;

Other standout items include a reversible Margiela lab coat that’s reimagined as an inverted shearling, knit sleeveless T-shirts emblazoned with disintegrating images of composers Sibelius, Satie and Ravel, and a suit jacket with two backs.&nbsp;

On the accessories side, highlights include a pair of pearl drop earrings with hooks on both ends as well as a new bag collaboration with Eastpak, a brand known for iconic, functional and durable pieces. Now, Eastpak gets the MM6 Maison Margiela treatment with five styles in three colorways.

The MM6 Maison Margiela x Eastpak collection includes a new deconstructed take on Eastpak’s signature canvas backpack and Springer bum bag making them entirely reversible, and a reinterpretation of MM6’s geometric Japanese bag. Primary colors give these pieces a bold, assertive energy. A black XL backpack with padded back panels on either side allows for reversibility. A mini shoulder bag takes an Eastpak standard and updates it with signature white MM6 stitching and reversed woven labels.&nbsp;

There’s a subtle humor and irreverence throughout, with detailing that begs for a second look. Across the board the pieces are as practical as they are—just slightly—uncanny, a natural addition to MM6’s oeuvre.&nbsp;
