The timeless Stan Smith, created by Horst Dassler in 1965, was once known as the Robert Haillet. Seeking a stronger US presence, adidas approached tennis icon Smith for an endorsement. Both tennis stars shared the silhouette with Smith's face on the shoe's tongue and Haillet's autograph on the side until 1978. In March 2019, this minimalist iteration was released, featuring a black leather upper with a contrasting white leather counter, tongue branding, laces and cutout Trefoil on the sidewall.
