The Nike Air Max 1990 Patent revitalized the design in 2001 with a straight-forward white and navy colorway and glossy panels made from composite leather. The original Air Max 90 was designed by Tinker Hatfield, who sought to improve on the Air Max 1 by manipulating the paneling and enlarging the Air unit. This model retains a foam midsole with a Max Air unit at the heel and Waffle-inspired tread below.
