To celebrate the Superstar’s 35th anniversary, adidas released a five-series, special edition collection of the shoe, including 35 different models in all. Part of the Expression Series, the Superstar 1 Expression ‘Andy Warhol’ is inspired by the famous artist’s 'Athletes' series. The sneaker’s leather upper features portraits of basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar—one of the first players to popularize the style—in LA Lakers’ team colors. Warhol’s own portrait and signature rest on the outer heel, while adidas branding accents stand out on the tongue and heel. Below, the same yellow and purple portrait pattern is visible through a translucent rubber sole.
