On September 20, 2016, adidas collaborated with Japanese fashion label, Mastermind, for the NMD XR1 'Mastermind.' Mastermind was founded by Masaaki Homma in 1997 and is famous for its ominous skull-and-crossbones logo which appears on this NMD XR1’s leather protective cage and tongue. The sneaker was released alongside Tubular Instinct ‘Mastermind.’
