For Mei Kawajiri, the human hand is the ultimate canvas. The Kyoto-born, New York-based artist has built a reputation of treating millimeters of space as fine art, with her work appearing on everyone from Rosalía and JENNIE to Bad Bunny, Dua Lipa and A$AP Rocky.

For the release of the ‘Beautiful Game’ DOAF x Nike Total 90s, Mei interpreted the collaborative silhouette as nail art. The most notable detail on first glance are the vibrant tones, inspired by the flags of the countries competing in this year’s World Cup expressed across the upper. “The woven knit is such an impressive technique,” Mei notes. “I love all the colors and textures.”
