Inspired by the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Tinker Hatfield sketched the Air Max 1 with a special window at the heel that would reveal the shoe's unique inner-workings to the world. Based on the 1987 classic, the Air Max 1 Essential sees the iconic shoe with a suede, synthetic leather and mesh upper in a grey palette. Below, the shoe is supported by a foam base with visible Max Air cushioning.
